Inspiration: Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins)

While a University student at 19 years old, I was introduced to the world of alternative rock, grunge and goth by a girl I dated. The first true alternative rock band that I was into was Smashing Pumpkins. The band’s dark, anger-filled lyrics, sometimes serene and other times nightmarish sounds and nostalgic visuals got me hooked. The direction of the band is dominated by its sole permanent member Billy Corgan, who is the principal songwriter, lead singer, and sonic architect behind the group’s recordings.

Beyond listening to the music and sometimes analyzing the lyrics, I never looked or read into the personalities of the bands. So during all those years listening to the Smashing Pumpkins, I hadn’t realized just how well-read, awakened and spiritual Billy Corgan is until I saw the interview with Alex Jones below.

Some of my favorites songs are “disarm, 1979 (coincidentally my birth year), tonight tonight, thirty-three” mostly from the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness album which has had a profound influence on me.

“1979″

“Tonight, Tonight”

watch this interview with Alex Jones. You will feel enlightened.

On a sad and shocking note, an article about former member and bassist D’arcy’s most recent drug arrest can be read here.
