Camping under stars at Bahariya Desert , Egypt

One of the most memorable experiences and highlight of my trip to Egypt was a 4×4 safari through the black and white deserts of Bahariya about 400kms from Cairo. With it’s impressive limestone formations shaped like giant mushrooms and animals. The richness and variety of Egyptian landscape is endless. Camping under a near full moon with a giant halo (known as moonring) pulsating from it was an incredible sight.

Arriving on site near the famous mushroom and chicken formation just after sunset, a spot was chosen to set up our camping site. With the sounds of wood crackling from the campfire burning, we had a delicious Egyptian dinner right underneath the mid-winter moon and stars. After dinner, we climbed under the mushroom rock, smoked sisha and drank white rum while listening to the beat of bongo drums from another camp echoing in the distance. Synchronicity gave me the opportunity to meet spiritual teacher, Shiva Rajaya and we did some meditative exercises which made me feel re-energised and rejuvenated. The whole trip sans torcherous bus ride from Cairo was an amazing spiritual experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
