Those were the words of Mervat, one of a number of women who have empowered themselves to speak out and take action amidst the political and economical turmoil facing Egypt. She frequents Tahrir square, leading protests and rallies and putting her own safety at risk. Following the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak, executive power was assumed by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which dissolved the parliament, and suspended the constitution.

In 2012, presidential elections resulted in the election of Mohammed Morsi as Egypt’s fifth President. Since then, the economy has worsened, tourism declined, unemployment is soaring and women’s freedom and rights are at risk. This series show the many faces that are leading the charge to push for the change that many Egyptians have been longing for.

Guard on patrol around the perimeter of the Presidential Palace. Demonstrations have moved from Tahrir square to the palace gates as different groups of protestors arrive with different demands for change ever since Morsi's inauguration day.

Business located in the proximity of the Presidential Palace has suffered badly due to the frequent protests and military presence. One of the streets near this store for example has been blocked off with barbed wire fences.

Our hope in God that the Judiciary system will help us and our chests are open for your live ammunition, damn you Tantawy. Beware Morsi that what overthrew Mubarak was the bread."

This sequence with actress Jennie-Jane Monnaie was inspired by the classic Sheena Easton hit, 9 to 5 (the morning train). It’s about a woman who waits all day for her man to come home from work.

In my childhood during the 80s, my parents used to play Sheena Easton tracks all the time in the car so I’d like to dedicate this series to them

Arriving on site near the famous mushroom and chicken formation just after sunset, a spot was chosen to set up our camping site. With the sounds of wood crackling from the campfire burning, we had a delicious Egyptian dinner right underneath the mid-winter moon and stars. After dinner, we climbed under the mushroom rock, smoked sisha and drank white rum while listening to the beat of bongo drums from another camp echoing in the distance. Synchronicity gave me the opportunity to meet spiritual teacher, Shiva Rajaya and we did some meditative exercises which made me feel re-energised and rejuvenated. The whole trip sans torcherous bus ride from Cairo was an amazing spiritual experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

[ Demeure du Chaos) is a Museum of Contemporary Art located in Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d'Or, a small town in the vicinity of Lyon, France. It is a living sum of more than 2,500 artworks, performed by many different artists and Thierry Ehrmann, CEO of Groupe Serveur, the holding of art quotation company Artprice.

The artwork is based around the transformation of Ehrmann's 17th century home into a replica war zone, at contrast with the peaceful village in which it is located.The Abode of Chaos has been the subject of an on-going law suit from the local mayor's office. Ehrmann has been ordered to pay a fine for unauthorised construction under town planning laws but has not been ordered to restore his home to its original condition. Today he is condemned by the Court of Cassation, France's highest court : he has to recondition his outer walls or pay a compensation.] - sourced from wikipedia

Nothing sums up Ontoshiki better than this.

One of the advantages of living in Tokyo is that it has given me the opportunity to meet a wide range of extremely talented artists and wonderful souls. Ontoshiki (otherwise known as Justin Vun) is one of them: an Australian photographer, a talented professional, an artist, a visual sensualist and a gifted storyteller. All this informs his photography and is easily read in his work. There is a stream of consciousness narrative in his work that as he puts it, “spans both Eastern and Western cultures and philosophies”.

Anyone who appreciates fine photography HAS to follow Ontoshiki. He did me the great favor by coordinating photo session for my other vocation within Chinese martial arts. (Please see Ki Martial Arts Studio). I found it so amazing Ontoshiki articulated many of the fine aspects of my martial art, going beyond words and conventional demonstration with his visual voice. He is a brilliant photographer and artist. It was a wonderful experience working with him.  I am truly in awe of his work and his ability to see. His work is inspirational. Plain and simple. I am honored that I can call him a friend.
